Progress on my violin top. I use this heavy stewmac scraper to get out the bumps, but it's a rough scraping that needs to be followed up with my sharp flexible scrapers once the geometry seems good.
I used the purfling marker to mark the channel and will use a knife to deepen it. I stopped just short of the corner and penciled in the bee sting to try and get the shape right. Pencil lines are a little rough but will fix that with the knife.
Current progress on the back. I wrote in some of the thicknesses in some areas, next I want to "punch" accurate thickness holes so I can do the final graduation like in the recent video:
I got some wood and materials to make a simple punch, which I will work on this week. Then I hope I can catch up. I have wanted to make a punch thicknessing tool for a while, it will be useful.
I almost removed too much wood, the blade should be a little tighter than I made it. If it gets too loose, it can be shimmed by gluing paper on the wood.

Finished the arching on my back plate. Time to start on the purfling.
Causal update.
I found that I may need to redo some filmming for the f hole making, so, I've been working on some tops for that. Chasing time.
Please ignore that stupid Del Gesu purfling corner lol.
Starting to shape my top in my own informal fashion

I managed to make something violin-shaped! It’s definitely not perfect
3/8 should be fine. Mine is 1/2 which is 4/8
I got my form from the CNC place today. It is only 3/8 inch. Do I need to make another one and glue them together?
Last Week of May, I am glad that we almost finished making the Back in the Course!
I just got one of these, not as nice though. I still haven’t quite figured out the blade
Here's my Japanese plane. It took a little while to fit the blade and tune the sole but it works good1
In the scroll picture, what is the small chisel?
I cheated and started with the scroll first
Looks good! I'm currently working on the back plate as well.
